Your first week: a setup checklist

The order that gets you from an empty workspace to a planned order fastest.

You can do these in any order, but this sequence lets each step build on the one before it.

  1. Company and currency. Fill in Settings → Company. (Create your workspace)
  2. Locations. Create your storage locations and bins in Settings → Locations, then print their labels. (Locations and bins)
  3. Products and BOMs. Add parts and assemblies, build each assembly's bill of materials and release them. (Products and BOMs)
  4. Opening stock. Record what is on the shelf with a stock adjustment or a first receipt.
  5. Suppliers and customers. Add the suppliers you buy from and the customers you sell to.
  6. Production lines. In Production Control, open Configure lines and add each line or cell.
  7. Work instructions. Write and release instructions for your assemblies. (Work instructions)
  8. Printers and carriers. Connect label printers in Settings → Documents & labels and carriers in Settings → Integrations.
  9. Phones. Install the shop-floor app on the devices your team uses. (The shop-floor app)
  10. A real order. Enter a sales order and confirm it. Watch the planner reserve stock and plan the work. (How the planner works)

Already have parts in SolidWorks PDM or orders in a webstore? See Integrations and the REST API to bring them in instead of typing them.
